Google-New-Algorithm

Will The New Google Algorithm Effect Your Article Marketing Strategy?

The simple answer is maybe. I am not an SEO expert but I am an Article Marketer who has success driving targeted traffic through organic search and wanted to share what I know and what I’ve experienced in the past few weeks since Google made the change…hopefully without boring you to death :)

I have found that article marketing is a great way to generate auto-pilot traffic and consistent lead generation for my network marketing business. It’s also a free marketing strategy that I recommend to everyone on my teams who want to be successful promoting their business online.

I don’t think this Google Algorithm change is necessarily a bad thing, from what I understand. In a nutshell…this change by Google is intended to be a positive for bloggers who pump out useful and original content, giving more search engine emphasis to the blogs and websites themselves. Where it’s going to hit article marketers is the additional traffic that we generate through our article syndication.

What I mean is Google is now giving substantially less search engine authority to what they have deemed “content farms”. Content farms are sites that store articles that have been written by other people – ie. non-original content. Some examples of sites that are very popular for article marketers and have historically provided us with high search rankings are eZineArticles, Hubpages, and Squidoo. There are many, many others. We all post our content to these sites. So, what does this mean?

My Personal Experience

The first day the change went into effect I saw my traffic to my blog literally drop off the face of the earth! I freaked when I saw my unique visitors drop by 75%! I then found a posting by Google stating to not panic if you saw results like mine because things would normalize in the next 2-3 days. Luckily, my traffic went back to normal after 2 days, which tells me that the change will not have a major effect on article marketer’s blog traffic as long as their content is original.

I do not do a good job of tracking traffic from article directories so I can not speak to whether or not that’s been effected or not. Sorry :)

Should You Still Submit To Article Directories?

I definitely think so. My strategy always includes syndicating my posts to a variety of article directories as well as social media sites. I know that EzineArticles is increasing their minimum word count for article submissions to 400 (from 250). This is a good thing for those of us who take our business strategy. This will also stop the “spammers” from piggy backing on high-authority sites to get their crap ranked. I’m not saying that I’m Ernest Hemingway because I certainly am not but I want my decent content to rank for my target keywords and I think having less competition is a good thing!

I don’t know what’s going to happen but I suspect that the large and reputable sites will regain much of their authority and many of the lesser sites will end up going by the wayside.

The Bottom Line

I believe that as long as you keep cranking out original content, and know the basics of how to rank your articles, you’ll be fine. I would continue to submt to article directories too (at least for now). You can go here for some On-Page SEO Tips that will help you to rank your content.
