Would Jeremy Lin Be a Successful Network Marketer?
I’m a BIG NY Knicks fan, have been since the 70′s, and I have to admit that for much of the time this has been a hard team to root for. While the Knicks had a good run in the 90′s, unfortunately that was when Michael Jordan was in his prime so we never won the BIG one, I’ve experienced a LOT of losing. Recently, things have changed and are looking up for all Knicks fans thanks to “Linsanity”!
An unheralded and undrafted asian american point guard out of Harvard…
The most unlikely NBA success story. This 23 year old kid has come literally out of nowhere (technically, he came from the far end of the bench
) and has captivated the entire sports world. The Knicks haven’t lost since he started playing 7 games ago and, more importantly, the franchise is relevant again and fun to watch.
How Can I Tie This Together?
So, I thought about how can I relate the Jeremy Lin “Story” to our network marketing industry? The truth is the Linsanity phenomenon has only happened because the kid persevered, would not take “NO” for an answer when nobody would give him a shot, and kept working to get better. These are EXACTLY the qualities you need to succeed in network marketing.
I mean, seriously, nobody was born to be a successful network marketer – particularly if you’re building online. Some people have a very charismatic personality and are “born salespeople” but 99% of us are not that way. We need to keep learning, hone our craft, and keep plugging away even if things may look bleak. We need to always keep our eye on our end goal and not stop until we get there.
Think about it…
When you joined your current biz op, did you think that you’d just start to magically make thousands of dollars and that you’d be plunking down cash to buy your first yacht within a year? You’d be jet-setting around the world? I know that the websites will have you believing that will be the case BUT seriously! I’m sorry if that’s what you thought. BUT, needless to say, reality has set in by now and you understand that it takes work and “getting your hands dirty” to become a successful entrepreneur.
What Are You Willing To Do For Your Network Marketing Business?
If you want to be the next “Jeremy Lin” of network marketing, you first need to know what your goals are and you also need to understand that you are actually “starting a business”. You need a “PLAN”. This industry is NOT rocket science, but it can be tricky. You need to learn how to generate leads, build relationships, and grow your business IF you want to play in the big leagues! Jeremy Lin kept plugging away honing his craft so he could be ready to perform on the BIG stage. Are you willing to do that?
Network Marketing Sucess…Are You 3 Feet From Gold?
Like I mentioned yesterday, I was starting to re-read Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich. It’s a timeless classic and really pertains to all of us and network marketing entrepreneurs.
The beginning of the book speaks about being “3 Feet From Gold”. I’ve heard this term for many years in the sales industry and it really is true. It’s the idea that when things look their bleakest and when you feel like throwing in the towel and giving up, that you just might be VERY CLOSE to finally achieving your goal – closing that sale or signing up that new distributor. The underlying message is to not give up.
Everyone who has ever achieved anything in life, particularly going against the norm and starting their own business or promoting their own product or idea, has run into difficulties at one time or another and could have given up. It took Thomas Edison hundreds of attempts to finally create a lightbulb that worked (where would we be today if he gave up?). Marconi’s friends, the father of the radio, sent him into psychiatric care when he told them he could broadcast sound over the air without wires…they thought he was nuts!
Bringing that thought to modern day, I remember when there was this new young company called Google who decided they were going to take on the search engine GIANT Yahoo. This was just crazy talk as everyone on the internet was using Yahoo. We know what happened there!
Talking sports, my favorite topic, the best hitters in baseball fail 7 out of every 10 times they step up to the plate.
The idea here is that nobody (except the marketing materials
) said that starting and building a successful online marketing or network marketing business was going to be easy. My friends thought I was crazy when I told them I was going to get involved in network marketing. I remember this like it was yesterday…one of them simply said… “Steve, I really don’t think that’s a very good idea. Nobody ever makes any money doing that. I’ll check to see if my company has any openings.”
That’s how the majority of people are conditioned to think and that’s OK. It makes the landscape that we work in wide open for those of us who don’t give up and keep focused on our end goal.
What is your end-goal?
Will you do whatever you have to to reach it?
Keep moving forward as if you’re just 3 Feet From Gold!

Top 50 MLM Blogs of 2011…Vote For Me!!
Hey guys…I’ve decided to enter the MLM Beat’s Top 50 MLM Blogs of 2011 contest and would appreciate your vote if you’re one of my faithful readers!
For those of you who don’t know my story, when I got started in Network Marketing back in 2009 I knew absolutely nothing about internet marketing or MLM. I got involved with MLSP (you can check that out HEREand started my blog with the idea of ultimately driving traffic to it and providing value. It took time and I made sure I posted almost daily and syndicated my content. Soon I was getting a few visitors a day. It took at least 4 months before I started to get any significant traffic but I stuck with it!
It’s the best thing I’ve ever done. Not only does it help to brand me and provide with a marketing hub on the internet…It also allows me to bring value to my readers who are generally also network marketers. Whenever I learn a new trick or strategy, I also post it here.
Anyway, thanks a ton in advance for your vote. If you’re in the contest, please leave a comment here and I’ll be sure to vote for you as well!
Just Put Your Head Down and Get To Work!
New people as me all the time what should the do…now that they’ve joined me in either My Lead System Pro or a business opportunity. Now, of course I don’t just say “Just Put Your Head Down and Get To Work” but that really is the bottom line!
I do a lot to support the people who join me, offering both marketing training and motivation. But the bottom line is if you never take any action on anything that you learn, what good is it? Did you get involved in network marketing just so you could throw your money away on something you’ll never use? I’m not going to go out and buy a powder blue leisure suit (although I looked pretty sharp in it back in 1979!) because I know I’ll never wear it. The same principle applies to making money in network marketing.
People who hop from program to program rarely make any money at all. The people who join a business opportunity, learn a few strategies of how to market it, and get to work are the people who succeed and make money in this industry. There’s no push-button formula or magic pill that works. Network marketing is a business that will reward you very handsomely for your EFFORTS (Hint: “Efforts” being the key word!).
If you don’t have the right mindset and believe that you will succeed and that you will do whatever it will take to succeed…it will be very difficult to get where you WANT to go. If you have the belief, but choose not to put in the work, it still won’t happen for you. You need both.
I’m currently re-reading Anthony Robbins’ “Unlimited Power”. It’s from 1991 and you can probably get it today for ten cents at a garage sale. There are many “mindset” books and tapes that you can buy to help you get over anything that may be holding you back from reaching your dreams.
Here’s a terrific MINDSET piece that my buddy, Mike Long, shared with me recently called “Cross The Line”:
YOU MUST “CROSS THE LINE”
cross: (verb) 1. to move from one side to another 2. to pass over mediocrity
With everything, there’s a LINE
On one side of the line is a greater chance to make good things happen (better results, better relationships, more responsibility). This is where you’ll find all those people you admire. People like Oprah Winfrey, Drew Bree’s of the New Orleans Saints, Kobie Bryant and Lady Gaga. Other famous Olympians, musicians and athletes. They made a decision to “Cross the Line.”
On the other side, there’s less of a chance.
And with each line, there’s a choice. You want to cross the line or you don’t. You want the better chance at making good things happen (meaningful things) or you settle with the lesser chance.
Your choice.
It seems simple but…
Then there’ll be those times – those times when in the short run it’ll seem like you can’t cross the line (no matter what you do). But then, those misses (those hurdles) in the short run will sometimes help you over the line in the long run (in a way you couldn’t have seen). They’ll serve as lessons, giving you more depth to your experience – making you stronger and better prepared for bigger and more important challenges you’ll face in the future.
But you won’t know that at the time.
At the time, you’ll just see that line.
And it might seem like a wall.
But it really is just a line (a line you want to cross).
And it’s yours to cross, but you have to decide (make that choice).
It seems simple but…
Then there’ll be those people – those people who’ve decided they’d rather not cross the line and would prefer you didn’t either (and unfortunately, sometimes those people might be your friends). Maybe they’ll sprinkle in a little doubt or withhold a little encouragement at just the right time (or even encourage you to do the wrong thing). Maybe they’ll be a little less subtle about it and just step directly in your way.
And then, every once in a while, there’ll be you – that inner voice that’ll try to tell you you’re not that special and that making something exceptional happen is for other people. (What are you thinking?)
Then there’ll be the work – the work that’ll be the real challenge that some people never face because of those times, those people, or that inner voice that keep us from putting in the effort and bouncing back when things get tough.
But there’s the line.
And it needs to be crossed.
And you can cross it.
It’s up to you.
(Which side will you choose?)
“The difficult is what takes a little time; the impossible is what takes a little longer.”
MLM Training is Vital To Your Growth & Nework Marketing Success
Last night I was on My Lead System Pro’s weekly Wednesday training webinar. These are webinars hosted by some of the top leaders in our industry. And, while I’ve been involved in this industry for 2 years now, and have put myself through a tremendous amount of training personally, I always pick up a few tips on these calls that I can immediately implement in my business. The learning process in both business and life should be never ending in my opinion.
I speak with people everyday who are desperate for MLM Training and marketing training so that they can build their business but they either don’t take action to get the training or they never implement what they learn. Being an entrepreneur in any business requires “extreme desire” and “massive action” to be successful. It’s not easy BUT it’s very possible for all of us to be successful beyond our wildest dreams. We just have to want it bad enough and do whatever it takes to get there.
The short video below outlines my thoughts on this topic of MLM Training and success in our industry.

The Power Of Visualization In Network Marketing
Last night I decided to whip out some of my old “mind-set” books that I have, since I’m coming off of a kind of lazy month last month and want to re-energize myself and my business. Not that I lost motivation but I lost some focus. The 2 that I started flipping through are both “oldies but goodies”…
Norman Vincent Peale’s (he actually lived in my hometown) “The Positive Principle Today” (his follow-up to “The Power Of Positive Thinking”) which was published in 1976 and Tony Robbin’s “Awaken The Giant Within” published in 1991. While both are old, they are by no means outdated.
It was late when I grabbed the books so I just read a few pages from each and both sent me the same message…
THE POWER OF VISUALIZATION
Most of us who get involved in network marketing “WANT” the same thing…Time Freedom and Financial Freedom. SO why do most never achieve that goal? I truly think it’s because most people honestly don’t believe that they can. Why? Because we get beaten down by life and have become accustomed to a life where our time isn’t our own and finances are tight and we really can’t imagine anything else. Negative thoughts permeate our consciousness (not a good thing btw!).
I’ve used Visualization ever since I can remember. I used it for my golf game this winter when I couldn’t play and hit the ball the best I have in years my first time out last week (I still need to work more on my “putting visualization though!). I used it (unknowingly) when I got involved in network marketing. I only expected success and the idea of “failing” in this industry not only wasn’t an option but it wasn’t even a thought (even though some told me I was nuts!).
YOU NEED TO “VISUALIZE” YOURSELF SUCCEEDING WITH YOUR BUSINESS!
Norman Vincent Peale said to “activate imagination to image successful outcomes”. Imagine yourself buying a new car, a new house, taking a vacation – whatever it is that motivates you (paying your credit card bill on time doesn’t count!). Think BIG and do this consistently. The mind is very powerful. Now, this does mean to just be a dreamer. To just say “I’d really like to live in a nicer house” but then turn on the TV! The follow-up to Visualization is to “Energize” your images. Basically, take action. Take MASSIVE action and do whatever it takes in order to make your imagination become reality.
I’ve really never had a sponsor that’s mentored me at all. I just took massive action and figured out how to get things done (thank you, Google!). Don’t wait for everything to be handed to you. If something’s not working right or going well, find out why and fix it. We’re all entrepreneurs. While most are willing to help, at the end of the day it’s your income and your life and your dreams.
Never lose sight of your goals. Follow your dreams. Visualize specific success images. Take massive action.
